The Giralda

The popular Giralda of Seville is in fact the old one to alminar of the mosque almohade of century XII, transformed into bell tower of the S.I. Cathedral and is finished off by a denominated vane the Giraldillo.

Of there its name, Giraldillo since the vane turned by the wind, and of there the name of Giralda.

It is the most famous monument of Seville and its more popular image, with a height of 94 meters.

Its present aspect remembered by the Town hall of the Cathedral in 1.558, ordering to the remodeling of the closing of the tower to Hernán architect Ruiz, who after ten years culminated their work, being a harmony prodigy since they were admirably fused the architecture of two different cultures distanced by four centuries in the time.

The Giralda viewpoint by comfortable inclines rises until the bell tower designed to raise horse. Once above the vision that appears to us is spectacular: on our feet, towers, cupolas, espadañas, roofs, seats and gardens; and the labyrinth of streets of the District Santa Cruz; the Bullring of the Real Arsenal of Cavalry, the Tower of Gold, the Guadalquivir River and its bridges: the one of the Centenary, the Delights, the Remedies, San Telmo, the one of Triana, the one of the Puppy, the Cartuja and Alamillos; the Island of the Cartuja, seat of the Universal Exhibition of 1,992,… and surrounding to Seville hills by the Aljarafe and the Alcores, and to the distant spot more glimpses the Sevillian North Mountain range.
